Inside Out Repentance
Following Jesus is not just behavior modification. It is transformation from the inside out.
As the Forward series begins in Mark, the invitation is to move from merely believing in Jesus to following Jesus. That movement starts with repentance.
Repentance is not a one-time church word. It is the lifestyle of a disciple. It is the ongoing posture of turning toward God with honesty, surrender, and obedience.
Tell God The Truth
The first step of repentance is telling God the truth.
Not the polished version. Not the version that makes us look better. The truth.
God already knows our hearts, but honesty opens the door to healing. We can tell Him where we are angry, afraid, distracted, proud, tempted, tired, or stuck. We can name the sin instead of managing the image.
Repentance begins when we stop hiding.
Ask God To Change Your Heart
Real repentance asks God to change more than behavior.
Behavior matters, but behavior flows from the heart. Jesus warned religious leaders about cleaning the outside while neglecting the inside. God wants to transform desires, motives, thoughts, and loves.
That means we can pray, "God, change my heart, not just my habits."
If only the outside changes, the old patterns eventually return. But when God changes the heart, new fruit begins to grow.
Take A Real Next Step
Repentance turns toward God with action.
That next step may be confession, forgiveness, accountability, serving, baptism, joining community, opening Scripture again, ending compromise, or making restitution. The point is not dramatic performance. The point is obedience.
Following Jesus is practical. It touches calendars, conversations, relationships, money, habits, and hidden places.
The gospel does not leave us where we were. Jesus calls us forward.
From Believing To Following
Mark announces the good news about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. That good news is not only information to admire. It is a kingdom invitation to follow.
Belief becomes discipleship when we turn toward Jesus with our whole lives.
Inside out repentance is how we keep moving forward.
