Built Different for the Kingdom
Growth is a gift, but growth is not always comfortable.
In 2 Kings 6, the company of prophets comes to Elisha and says the place where they meet is too small. That one sentence reveals movement. Something is growing. Something needs to expand. Something that used to work no longer has room for what God is doing.
That is often how moving forward feels. It is exciting, but it also stretches us. Growth pushes against comfort. It asks us to build, serve, adjust, and trust God in new ways.
Growth Pains Can Be A Sign
One sign that God is moving you is growth pains.
Comfort and growth rarely stay in the same place for long. When God stretches a person, a family, or a church, there is often pressure. The old space gets too small. The old rhythms need attention. The old habits cannot carry the new assignment.
That does not mean something is wrong. It may mean God is growing something.
The question is whether we will resist the discomfort or respond with faith.
Stop Watching And Start Building
The prophets do not only complain that the place is too small. They propose movement: let us go down to the Jordan, get logs, and build.
That is a kingdom posture.
There is a difference between noticing a need and helping build the answer. The church is not built by spectators. It is built by people who bring their gifts, time, faith, and obedience to the work God is doing.
If you have been attending but not serving, watching but not building, consuming but not contributing, this may be the invitation: come build.
Do Not Lose Your Edge
As the men are cutting down trees, an ax head falls into the water. The tool needed for the work is lost.
That image speaks to spiritual life. It is possible to be near the work and lose the edge. It is possible to stay busy but lose hunger, worship, humility, or dependence on God.
The good news is that what was lost can be recovered. Elisha asks where it fell. The place of recovery begins with honesty.
Where did you lose your edge?
Was it exhaustion? Distraction? Disappointment? Compromise? Comparison? Pain?
Go back to that place with God. He is able to restore what you thought was gone.
Built Different Means Built For Purpose
God’s people are built different because we are not building for ourselves. We are building the kingdom.
That means growth pains are not pointless. Serving is not small. Faithful obedience is not wasted. The work matters because people matter and Jesus is worthy.
God is moving His church forward. The invitation is not only to watch it happen. The invitation is to build.
