If You See It
Moving forward is not only about effort. It is about vision.
In 2 Kings 2, Elisha follows Elijah through a series of moments that test his persistence. Others speak from the sidelines. The journey is not convenient. The request is bold. But Elisha keeps following because he sees something worth pursuing.
When Elijah asks what Elisha wants, Elisha asks for a double portion of his spirit. Elijah tells him that if he sees him when he is taken, he will receive it.
If you see it.
Vision And Voices
Vision often comes with competing voices.
In the story, groups of prophets speak to Elisha about Elijah being taken away. They are not necessarily lying, but their voices could have become a distraction. Elisha had to decide whether he would be led by the voices around him or the vision God had placed in front of him.
The same is true for us. Not every voice deserves the same weight. Some voices stir faith. Others feed fear, comparison, cynicism, or hesitation.
Moving forward requires discernment. What is God showing you? What has He said? What voices are helping you obey, and what voices are pulling you away from the vision?
Testing And Trials
Elisha’s journey includes tests. He has multiple opportunities to stop, but he keeps going.
That is often where faith gets exposed. We may have enough excitement for the first step, but testing reveals whether we have perseverance for the second one.
Trials do not always mean you missed God. Sometimes they reveal whether the vision is rooted deeply enough to keep you moving when obedience gets uncomfortable.
If God gave the vision, do not quit just because it gets tested.
Portion And Presence
Elisha does not ask for fame, comfort, or convenience. He asks for a double portion. In the language of inheritance, he is asking to carry the mission forward.
For Elisha, this was not about stuff. It was about purpose. It was about presence. It was about carrying forward what God had placed on his life.
That kind of hunger is different from ambition. Ambition wants a platform. Hunger wants God’s presence. Ambition wants recognition. Hunger wants faithfulness.
The question is not only, "What do I want God to give me?" The better question may be, "What calling am I willing to carry?"
Stay Close Enough To See
Elisha received what he asked for because he stayed close enough to see.
That is a word for anyone tempted to drift. Stay close to Jesus. Stay close to His Word. Stay close to worship. Stay close to community. Stay close when the voices are loud and the testing is real.
You cannot receive what you refuse to pursue.
God is still revealing. God is still calling. God is still inviting His people to see what He sees and move where He leads.
Reflection Questions
- What vision has God placed in front of you?
- Which voices are strengthening your faith, and which are distracting you?
- What test has made you want to stop?
- Are you pursuing God’s presence or only His provision?
- What would it look like to stay close enough to see?
Suggested Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me see what You are showing me. Give me discernment for the voices around me, endurance through testing, and hunger for Your presence. I want to stay close and move forward with You. Amen.
